Did you know that the UAE once got so cold that it reached below zero degrees? On February 3, 2017, Jebel Jais, the country’s tallest mountain in Ras Al Khaimah, recorded a freezing temperature of -5.7°C. This is the coldest temperature ever noted in the UAE.
Jebel Jais is about 25 kilometers from Ras Al Khaimah City. Even during hot summers, it’s cooler up there. But in the winter of 2017, it became super chilly, surprising many people.
Usually, winters in the UAE, from November to March, are mild. Daytime temperatures are between 15°C and 25°C in most places. Coastal cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi enjoy pleasant weather. However, in the mountains, like Jebel Jais, it can get much colder, sometimes even below freezing. Winters here are known for clear skies, a little rain, and many outdoor fun activities.
On February 4, 2017, just a day after the record cold, Jebel Jais was cold again at -3°C. And on January 24, 2009, the top of the mountain was covered with snow stretching over five kilometers!
These chilly moments are rare in the UAE, making them special and memorable for everyone.
