Dubai Cinema Akil is bringing an exciting film event back to the city with their BLACKBIRD program! This cinema event promises a fun and educational experience for everyone. From September 25 to 27, this special event will feature movies and conversations all centered around Black voices and stories.
Film Fun at Alserkal Avenue
Taking place at Cinema Akil in the artistic Alserkal Avenue, the BLACKBIRD program will showcase five amazing films. Kids and parents can enjoy watching these films together and even participate in filmmaker Q&A sessions. Curated by Shannon Ayers Holden, the program is inspired by Nina Simone’s famous song “Blackbird” and is sure to inspire and educate.
Amazing Movies to Watch Together
The event opens with “Mississippi Masala,” a romantic drama by Mira Nair, starring Denzel Washington. There’s also Horace Ové’s “Pressure,” Julie Dash’s “Daughters of the Dust,” the fun movie “Drumline,” and the intriguing documentary “Recorder: The Marion Stokes Project.” Each film brings a unique story that is perfect for families to enjoy and learn from.
