What is El Niño?
El Niño is part of a big climate pattern called the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). During El Niño, the Pacific Ocean near the equator gets warmer, which can change weather patterns around the globe, including in the UAE. It pops up every two to seven years and can change the weather for about nine to twelve months.
This year, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) is paying extra attention. They think we’ll really start to feel El Niño’s effects in the UAE during October and November. But don’t worry! Experts say it doesn’t always mean extreme weather.
How El Niño Affects Weather Worldwide
El Niño can make some places rainier and others drier. For example, some parts of Southeast Asia get less rain, while parts of Africa get more. It’s like a global weather shuffle!
This year has been especially warm, and El Niño is part of the reason. August was one of the hottest on record! But remember, it’s just one piece of the climate puzzle.
